Finding Your Ideal Blend of Comfort & Support
When it comes to choosing a mattress, it's important to keep two main factors in mind: comfort & support. When you align your body properly during sleeping hours, you give your muscles and joints a better chance to rest—whether it’s recovering from hours hunched over a computer screen or spending time outside doing yardwork. Proper body support is a crucial element to avoid sleep-time soreness and wake up feeling well-rested.
Since choosing a mattress greatly depends on your personal support & comfort preferences, there’s no right or wrong answer. But what do we mean when we talk about comfort & support, really?
Comfort Vs. Support: What's The Difference?
COMFORT: This refers to what the mattress feels like. Since comfort levels vary from person to person depending on individual preference and unique needs, there is no "right or wrong" kind of comfort.
SUPPORT: This refers to how strong or specialized the mattress is. Factors like what the mattress layers are made of (coils, springs or memory foam) all determine how supportive a mattress can be. Once again, every person has unique sleeping needs, so the "right" amount of support varies depending on personal preference.
A common misconception is that firmness is the same as support. In fact, firmness refers to how comfortable we find a mattress, while support speaks to how a mattress supports your body.
Ultimately, a mattress that brings you your best sleep could feel completely different to someone else.
To a lighter sleeper, a soft foam mattress can have wonderful body support that’ll have you waking wide-eyed and pain-free... But for a heavier sleeper, it may suck you into a cushioned abyss. It all depends on you.
A good rule of thumb: As long as the mattress you choose supports your body correctly, you should be able to achieve your best sleep.

What's Your Sleep Temperature?
Temperature plays a big role in getting a good night's rest and if you naturally sleep hot, your choice of mattress can help with that. If you tend to wake up feeling sweaty and overheated, a mattress that's designed with cooling technology can make all the difference.
Benefits of Cooling Sleep
When talking about mattresses, cooling refers to how cool the mattress feels to the touch and its ability to provide a temperature-regulated sleep environment. With cooling technology, your mattress features components and materials that help provide a cool and comfortable night's sleep. Look for this feature if you get too hot during the night. Gel grid, cooling memory foam, and gel-infused memory foam mattresses are all great for keeping you cool.
Mattress Thickness
Mattresses are comprised of layers made up of different comfort and sleep technology materials that, when combined, can range from 7 inches to over 20 inches thick.
These layers are divided into two categories:
- Fountain or Base Layer: Like the foundation of your home, the base layer of your mattress is responsible for providing overall durability and support. Without a strong enough mattress foundation, a bed will show signs of wear and tear sooner, such as sagging in the areas where your hips and lower back lie.
- Comfort Layers: The remaining layers of your mattress are comfort layers. These layers contribute to healthy spine alignment, pressure relief, and motion isolation.
Pressure Point Relief
Pressure point relief is important as it can help alleviate pain and improve your overall health. The correct balance of pressure relief and support can vary depending on a person's body type and preferred sleeping position.
Targeted Relief For Better, Healthier Sleep
How your mattress contours and supports your sleep position determines how much targeted relief is provided. Proper pressure relief can alleviate aches, tossing & turning, and improve circulation by reducing pressure points and conforming to your body. Pressure relief is important if you have any sleep issues to make sure that you sleep comfortably through the night. Low Motion Transfer
This refers to how a mattress prevents motion on one side of the bed from impacting a sleeping partner. The goal of motion separation is to isolate movement, helping to reduce any activity you feel (like your partner tossing and turning) and allowing you to sleep and move throughout your sleep cycles uninterrupted. Motion separation is great for partners with different sleeping schedules or styles. Pro tip: Foam mattresses provide excellent motion separation.
